Ulo nga Apo is camera shy
By Anthony Bayarong

Subic Times was at Rotonda “Ulo ng Apo” around 8pm to take photos and update our file for our readers. Ulo ng Apo is a public place and supposed to be the landmark of the city. But in an unexpected incident two traffic enforcers from the Olongapo City Traffic Management Public Safety (OTMPS) approached Photog David Bayarong and told him to stop shooting because it should be coordinated with the office of the Mayor.

Shooting in a public place should be coordinated with the office of the mayor? Is there any city resolution, ordinance regarding this and if there should be any they should think about it, there’s a lot more rules to be enforce, we could go on till the morning about resolution, ordinance etc that should be enforce by the city.

We are not making a big deal about this, in fact the two traffic offers were very cooperative and soft spoken, thanks guys. Our point here is that if a tourist wants to take photos of the Ulo ng Apo which is the symbol of Olongapo, should they coordinate first with the office of the mayor? Get a permit from the Tourism Department of Olongapo? Or call the PAO office and ask for a go signal? Sabi nga ng mga tambay “naglason kung ganun.”

Would it benefit the city if a photographer takes photos of its landmark, tourism spots? Yes, its free promotion for them instead of spending hundreds of thousand of taxes payer money for promotion that they only knew about.

So for you guys and gals out their who want and are planning to take some shots, better get in line early and ask the mayor if you can take pictures of Ulo ng Apo.

Oh and by the way, a smart photographer “just clicks away.”
