Ted Macapagal moved to City Hall
The body of former Olongapo City mayor Teddy Macapagal will be move to the Olongapo City Hall today.
In a text message to www.subictimes.com his eldest son, Michael Macapagal said that “My dad’s body is being moved to Olongapo City Hall for the duration of his wake for reasons that the memorial park could no longer accommodate the number of people who wanted to see him for the last time.”
The eldest Macapagal also said that “We, the Macapagal family of Olongapo, would like to convey our appreciation to President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino, his family and his administration, for his Excellency’s support and flowers that he sent us. We also thank senator Mar Roxas for the flower he sent us.”
A FLAG lawyer, an advocate of human rights and a known Cory Aquino supporter, former Olongapo City Mayor Teddy C. Macapagal passed away early morning of Sept. 1.
His exploits as the lone voice of dissent in that part of the country did not go unnoticed. When Cory Aquino rose to challenge Marcos in the snap election, she drafted Macapagal to help run her campaign. She subsequently named him OIC Mayor of the city.
His last political act was to campaign for the election of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III.
He is survived by his wife, Teresita Macapagal, nee Rementilla, and children Michael Ted, Melanie Joy, Marvin Ted, and Teddy Jr.
