BOC seize P106M worth of abandoned cargo


More than P106M worth of abandoned cargo was seized by the Bureau of Custom Subic and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority here yesterday.

BOC district collection Marietta Zamoranos together with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority Senior Deputy Administrator Robert  Onchiaco personally opened 7 container vans located at the Subic Port’s New Container Terminal-1 (NCT1).

Among the items seized  were Used clothing’s , house hold good and personal effects, electronic gaming machines, an unused Nissan Brougham and spare parts for a cargo ship.

“The containers are already over staying and have taken up much of the space needed for other paying shippers.” Zamoranoz said.

The biggest haul was a container van with spare parts for a cargo vessel consigned to a certain Morrison Express Corp. (Korea) Ltd and was meant to be delivered to Hanjin Heavy Industries Corporation-Philippines (HHIC-Phil) but was never claimed since January 2009 worth an estimated $1.5 million.

Another van contained a brand new Nissan Brougham, a luxury car worth $60,000 which came from Keelung, Taiwan. The consignee identified as a certain Kaizen Group Corporation (PH) did not acknowledge the shipment. The car, according to customs officials, was brand new but was declared otherwise.

Zamoranos said that all-in-all, the amount of these seized items would be around P106 million. She added that these items would be automatically be held by the BOC.
