Subic businessmen give Aquino free hand in choosing next SBMA chief

The Subic Bay Chamber of Commerce is giving president-elect Benigno Aquino III to choose the next SBMA Chairman and Administrator who will be working hand in hand with him during his 6 years term.

The SBFCC is the largest and most influential business group inside the 67,000 hectare Freeport. As of February this year, some 1,258 companies call the Freeport their home.

‘It is tough to undergo a change of leadership, but it is natural. We will respect who the national government will appoint here,’ the chamber executive promised.

SBFCC also want Subic to be the model of his campaign slogan of ending corruption in government to ease the nation’s poverty condition.

‘‘Graft and corruption also exists here but not comparable to other areas. I am hoping that it can be totally eliminated here,’ Danny Piano, president of the Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce said.

In its 18-year history, the Freeport authority has had two transition periods. The first, being the most acrimonious and violent, was in 1998.

Hundreds were hurt when then SBMA chairman Richard Gordon, an appointee of outgoing president Fidel Ramos, refused to recognize then congressman Felicito Payumo, the appointee of newly elected President Joseph Estrada.

After a two month stand off, the Supreme Court, voting 13-0, said that Gordon’s new appointment was only for the remainder of Pres. Ramos’ term and that the appointment to the post was ‘co-terminus with the appointing authority.’

Piano, who runs a US firm creating digital content for clients, says that his members hope that Aquino will enhance business policies, but also hopes that he ‘generally leave business alone.’

‘Subic Bay will grow in the next 5 to 10 years, whoever is the president,’ Piano explained, but a better policy regime, he clarifies, would mean ‘faster growth, compared to a regular incline.’

Records of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, the government agency in charge of the zone, showed that over the last five years, investment generation has been roller coaster ride.

Freeport chief Armand Arreza, said that investment grew 20% annually from 2006 to 2008 but dipped to 2.5% in 2009.

He added the people who are used to doing things the right way and who understand that we need to compete with the world is an important consideration.

Current SBMA administrator a source said would respect the decision of the president.

corruption inside sbma never died down really, those past sbma administrations including this current one has corruption written all over their faces, and now u people seriously think that their second generation thugs are contenders as chief?? When will we ever learn? mike mac is the choice, he is the change we need. I knew his father, a great and noble man and mike is his fathers son…

  2. Graft and corruption are very rampant even during the time of Sen Gordon. Reports disclosed that Sen Gordon has more than 100 housing units leased on him but was placed into the names of his relatives and close friends. So with Chairman Payumo who allegedly leased 50 units for himself. Even the present administrator, Arreza and his close member of board of SBMA directors leased 10 housing units each of them.
I wish therefore that the incoming SBMA administrator, thru the support of President Aquino will uncover all these anomalies and prosecute to the fullest these persons involved in these nefarious and illegal activities inside SBMA

I know for a fact that MMac is a wife beater…Go find a better alternative.

  4. Geneva says:

I wonder where you got your information that MMac is a wife beater. I’m not at all surprised…many would stoop so low as to fabricate wild stories just to protect their “candidate.”
MMac is exactly the opposite of what you picture him out to be: loving and affectionate, he adores his wife and kids and would go through great lengths to protect them. How do I know? This information has not been handed down to me from one “so-called reliable source” to another nor has it been sugar-coated just to give MMac a “good image.” I know because I’m in close contact with his family and watch how they live.

  5. ....MANizer says:

  6. DD says:

@geneva…ask his ex-wife, and his abandoned daughter in the states before you open your mouth

  7. Manizer says:

    DD? I know who u are………..

  8. Archie says:

DD – You obviously do not know Mike Macapagal. I don’t know where your hatred of him is coming from or what motivations you have, but for the record: MM is a successful businessman, with foreign business credentials, exactly what SBMA needs. He is a director of the board of the Fil-Am Chamber of Commerce, and a friend to the foreign chambers, among them the U.S., Europe, Korea, Japan, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Pamuri. On the personal side, NO he is NOT a wife beater at all. He is a divorcee and your information about his abandoned daughter is also NOT accurate. His daughter is currently enrolled at an American School (college) and Mike is the one who is supporting her. His daughter will be coming to Olongapo SOON when he takes his oath as SBMA’s new Chairman & Administrator. Please be fair. Thank you.

  9. DD says:

I have no hatred, I am not trying to destroy him. I’m just trying to give you the other side of the coin.

You asked to be fair? Where’s fairness when nobody knows the other side of him?

Let the people decide. I know he apprieciates that you are defending him. Maybe you are one of the entourage.

Good luck, is all I can say!

  10. DD says:

Oh and by the way, I would highly recommend drug testings to all candidates ;p

    There, I said “all” ;p

Manizer – put your money where your mouth is…

  11. reformist says:

well this is turning out to be dirty play…the ball is difinitely in noynoy’s hands now, i just wish he declare his man in sbma asap to put a lid on this stinking side of politics…

  12. Manizer says:

hey DD i know you. you were beaten by your ex husband. so please wag mo ipasa sa iba ang pinagdaanan mo.

  13. DD says:

    hahaha you wish manizer…hahaha

  14. DD says:

either you’re a relative or on his payroll…

tsk tsk tsk very pathetic hahaha

  15. Manizer says:

  20. JET says:

Grabe paninira nyo kay Mike Mac puro her say hes say hanggat wala kayong katibayan better be quite nalang for me sya dapat ang next SBMA Chief….

  21. QRT says:

Yes i agree that there’s rampant graft and corruption in SBMA and i can attest to that because i used to be working in SBMA Law Enforcement Dept. as Shift Lieutenant, Asst. Team Leader of Quick Reaction Team and Budget and Procurement Officer of the said department. In order to stop it,first, they better remove those corrupt personnel of LED and IIO. I can name names if they want.

  22. Copasetic says:

Here’s the link. It says it all.
    http://www.corp.ca.gov/ENF/pdf/f/FirstSouthwestern_OR.pdf

  23. Copasetic says:

If Mike can’t run his own small company, what makes you think he can run SBMA? If he is barred from doing business in the States because of financial violations, what makes you think he has no plans of corrupting in SBMA and commit more violations.

  24. Archie says:

I used to work for Mike in the states. I can tell you – he is a good leader who knows how to grow a business and inspire his people. The cases filed against his company is purely administrative. He owns several business in the states – a real estate company, an all-lines insurance company and this escrow business is only a small portion of his business. He also owns a Business Process Outsourcing in Eastwood, Libis. A business is a business. It can be subjected to all kinds of legal actions. And this is not the only lawsuit that his business is facing. When he was a big-time manager for one of the largest title companies in the U.S. (where I worked with him), Stewart Title, the company faced a lot of lawsuits. But guess what? Mike won all of those cases including this current one. They have signed a settlement agreement that took care of it for good. The more important question is, does Mike have a case pending in a criminal court? Does he have a case pending with the Philippine Courts – the Ombudsman, Sandiganbayan or the NBI perhaps? The answer, NO. What about the other contenders? They are all politicians who will do nothing but harm to SBMA. P-Noy is right to chose Mike Macapagal to be the next Chairman of SBMA.

  25. Archie says:

By the way, if I might add: Stewart Title is bigger than SBMA. Mike is part of an executive team that presided over a financial statement, with assets and liabilities over several billion in dollars at stake. The company has over 100,000 employees today, but it was more than tripple back in 2007 when Mike was County Manager there. In other words, during the time Stewart Title has more employees than SBMA for example, or the entire population of Olongapo City.

let’s pray that ex-governor atty. Amor d. Deloso be the next chairman of SBMA for us to have a best investment place in the country… Wherein investors will be happy putting up business because of a open administration. Just like what he did in zambales for only 3 years…

  27. zambaleno says:

OMG.. Never, never recommend a trapo politician in SBMA because that will defeat the purpose of making SBMA a progressive business place. I have nothing against deloso but please a new breed is needed not a recylcled and fading politician. we need a good business manager not a fast talking politician who will promise everything but nothing. think wisely…

  28. Anony says:

MMac is the best for the position…. wag si Deloso.. yung mga kamag anak ni deloso nag iisip na agad ng mahahawakang posisyon sa sbma wala pa namang assurance yan… Deloso is not the best person for that position…

  29. Anony says:

  30. Character is more than talk. It is always best to walk your talk or better said: it is best to talk and walk at the same time. Anyone is free to state his/her comments, but then again, it is best to keep your comments to yourself and walk your talk. Or better still, if I may ask: “what have you done to make SBMA a better workplace?” We have no control over a lot of things in life. We don’t get to choose our parents, even our IQs or talents. But we do choose our character. In fact, we create it every time we make choices. At this point in time, with all modesty, I choose to help the current SBMA administration to the best of my ability. Imperfection is (always) inherent in the process, but it is best for all of us inside SBMA to help each other make the best out of a bad bargain (if you want to call it that way). But I would rather say, to make the best of what life has to offer us. MABUHAY ANG SBMA !!!

  39. ajm says:
