Landslide kills 2 in Olongapo
2 workers were killed in a landslide in Barangay Kalaklan Monday afternoon.
Police identified the victims who were buried alive in ten feet of mountain soil and mud as Gilbert Dalisay, 38 years old, a resident of 68 lower Kalaklan and Rommel Lastinada, 23 years old and a resident of Old Cabalan.
According to reports the landslide occurred around 4:30 in the afternoon Monday after a slight rain in the city.
Another worker identified as Arman Santos was able to escape the landslide, only half of his body was buried in soil and mud.
A worker in the area who asked not to be named said that they already saw a 2 inch crack on the 30 feet wall days before the incident.
“We were leveling part of the hill to give way for the construction for a commercial building, the leveling was almost done when this happened.(Nililibel namin yung lugar para matayuan ng commercial space, malapit n asana matapos kaya lang biglang nag landslide)” The worker said.
Equipped with a small backhoe the Olongapo City Disaster Management Office headed by Angie Layug was able to retrieve the bodies of the victims in 2 hours.
Olongapo City first lady Anne Gordon was on the scene together with councilor Jong Cortez, and Councilor elect Bugsy Delos Reyes during the retrieval operation.
Meanwhile, media men covering the retrieval operation was prevented from taking pictures and video by the Public Affairs Office of Olongapo with out any reason.

there is a building permit and city engineers were hired by the owner of the said lot. this was a tragedy..lahat ng requirements, ok… twas the public affairs office who prevented the media from taking pictures.. im not pro-gordon.. but they were there and provided necessary tools in rescuing the victims.. minsan, we need to know the facts before we react. erik, no offense meant, pero if you dont know a thing, tumahimik ka na lang
I can say what i want to say thank you. I asked a question, you answered so good for us. pero hindi ka diyos para pigilan ako magsalita. With all do respect, arogante ang dating natin pareho, pero hindi kita pipigilan magsalita. My beef is with the PAO and not the owners or the victims.
Hindi naman haharang ang media sa gawain ng rescue. Kasama pa nga ng rescue yan kapag may sakuna, habang tayo naghihintay ng balita sa mga bahay natin. Give them credit for what they do.
Kasi this will help us more to visualize yung scenario..anyways good job for the team subic times to have us updated…
you really cant stop me from speaking.. kasi what i was saying were facts and not just second hand infos.. when you said “Baka naman walang permit yan kaya ayaw ipa-media.” you were trying to imply that the owners were preventing the media to take pictures. with all DUE (not do) respect, you were right, media plays a big part in our society.
my point is… your first sentence has a lil touch of malice… that’s what made me speak arrogantly. as i’ve said, what i know are facts and not just mere second hand infos. i suggest that if there’s something happened like this, let’s inform others and not speculate things. kasi the more we speculate, mas lalong natutwist ang totoong nangyari… yun lang
or, better yet, ask me what really happened kasi i can speak in behalf of the workers and the owners of the site without being biased.
Ms. Perfect English and representative of the owners and the workers (a bit weird, don’t you think),
Assuming (without accepting) that your statements are factual. So what? The news story is likewise factual. Good for us (better for you because you are involved, right?)
And you should read my first post in the context of the story. It was the PAO (Vic Viscocho) who barred the media, not the owner. So I did not imply anything. I merely asked why HE and the city government would do it?
Malice, dear Ms. Perfect English and representative of the owners and the workers, is the product of your mind. Maybe because it is malicious?
They might have done it to prevent the media from asking questions and finding out the the engineers who made the plans and program of works (including excavation when the incident happened) were government officials doing illegal sideline (maybe even moonlighting as contractor?).
Now because the city engineers were commissioned to do the plan, who will investigate the liability of the contractors, the owners and the engineers? The City engineering office? Wow!
And lastly, if you want to clear things, I do not need to ask you, just post away. That is a better course of action than imputing something that only your malicious mind imagined. gets?
Two things….
The prevention of coverage of Subic times in this incident is another part of the harassment form not only of the Subic times people but for the whole media itself…(haller! biktima na naman diyan ang mga tropang Subic times dahil ba duon sa Baretto incident)!
I’ll pray for the deaths.
