A vice gubernatorial candidate in the province of Zambales was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Barangay Mabangit, Cabangan Zambales Sunday morning.
P/Chief Insp. Rogelio Penones head of the provincial Criminal Investigation and Detection Group identified the victim as Willie Viloria, 44, a resident of said barangay who si running as an independent for vice governor in the province.
Penones added that the victim together with his wife was having their morning coffee inside their house at around 10am Sunday when two gunmen entered their house and shot the victim.
Viloria died on the spot due to gunshot wound to the head and body.
After the shooting the suspects allegedly took a bag containing P500,000 in cash.
The money according to report was being used by the victim to fund his campaign.
Police recovered several shells from a .45 caliber pistol and .38 caliber revolver at the scene of the crime.
Authorities are still investigating if the killing was a case of election related violence or a case of robbery with homicide.
