A riot at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology broke out early Wednesday morning injuring 2 inmates.
Olongapo City Police Office Dir. PSSupt. Orcar Albayalde in a telephone interview with www.subictimes.com confirmed that a riot broke out inside compound of BJMP located at the back of Camp Cabal in Barangay Barretto.
“May ililipat ata silang inmate mula dito (Olongapo City) papuntang Dinalupihan, pero umalma yung mga preso, nag protesta sila hanging sa nagkagulo at ang balita ko nagsunog pa sila ng mesa at upuan,” Albayalde told www.subictimes.com.
He also reported that two inmates were injured during the incident and is now at the James L. Gordon Memorial Hospital.
A SubicTimes e-correspondent identified the injured inmates as Lito Mendoza and Joselito Abelda.
A resident who asked not to be named said that prisoners were on protest due to hunger and other issue’s inside the compound.
“Nagugutuman ata yung mga preso kaya nag protesta, madaming kalokohan dyan sa loob.” the resident said.
www.subictimes.com tried to call BJMP to get details but was denied after a male staff hang the phone after a few questions from SubicTimes.
Other media was also denied details and entry at the BJMP compound in Barangay Barretto.
